Katharine and Dean of Lahn Stafford Design, recently completed the first issue of a new school holiday activities programme, 'School's Out'. 'School's Out', run by Lange Hill Marketing, will be distributed to schools across South Australia, promoting kids activities during school holiday times.
Essentially a calendar of events, the document was begging to be illustrated. It needed to be bright and bold and have an element of fun to keep its young readers interested.
Katharine used a relatively quick illustrative style, producing strong images that were scanned and dropped into the document layout.
Working alongside the designer was a great advantage as the illustrations could be devised especially for the copy without delay. Katharine needed to produce the images very quickly...and a lot of them, so she adopted a style that didn't require a lot of fuss.
The Illustrations were drawn freehand without any initial pencil sketches. 'If they didn't work I just did them again. Luckily most of them were successful first time!' says Katharine.
